Supporting child wellbeing together with Fairtrade
As part of the Action Sustainability Programme (ASP), Action wants to contribute to the communities where we operate. We focus on children, as they are the future and we believe children deserve a safe and healthy start in life.
That is why Action became the first international retailer to join the Fairtrade Living Income & Child Wellbeing Programme. The programme supports three cocoa cooperatives in Côte d’Ivoire, helping farmers move towards earning a living income while supporting child wellbeing.
When cocoa farmers do not earn enough to support their families, children are more likely to help on the farm, especially when schools are far away or parents lack the means needed for their children to join schools. Tackling child labour requires both working towards a living income for farmers and access to education for children.
Through this programme, Action and Fairtrade invest in both. Alongside efforts to close the income gap using the Fairtrade Living Income Reference Price as a benchmark, the programme supports projects that help children stay in school. One example is the distribution of school kits in Côte d’Ivoire, where children receive fully equipped school bags for the new school year.
Since 2022, all cocoa used in Action private label products is Fairtrade certified. Every Fairtrade-certified chocolate purchase helps support farmers, strengthen communities, and keep children in the classroom, not in the field.
