Action opens its 2,500th store
Action, the fastest-growing non-food discounter in Europe, passes the 2,500th store mark with the opening of a new store in Madrid, Spain today.
Action is present in 11 countries, providing customers with its unique formula: 6,000 good quality products in 14 product categories (from toys and handicrafts to household, gardening, DIY and food items) at the lowest possible price. Action offers a surprising assortment with 150 new products on the shelves every week. More than 1,500 products are priced at less than 1 euro. The average price of all products is less than 2 euros.
Additionally, Action wants to make sustainable products accessible to everyone. As a leading discount retailer, Actions feels responsible for continuously improving its products, supply chain, and CO2 emission. Products are improved by reducing their carbon footprint and increasing their circularity. Already 90% of Action’s wooden products and 92% of cotton products are sourced more sustainably. Action expects to achieve its goal of 100% sustainable sourcing of these materials as soon as 2024.
The opening of this new store highlights Action’s fast growth throughout Europe and in Spain. It is Action’s 25th store in Spain after entering the country only last year.

Create more local jobs
The company’s growth plan for the coming years is set to create more local jobs. “Since opening our first store in Spain in 2022, we have created jobs for a total of more than 550 Spanish colleagues. We are committed to continuing to expand our team to provide the best shopping experience for our customers” explains Bart Raeymaekers, Regional Director for Action and General Manager for Spain.
The inauguration was attended by the Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro, who welcomed the new store and thanked the company for its commitment to the town, which generates “wealth and employment, something that this Mayor’s Office values very highly”. He also added that this establishment “is Action’s 2,500th store in the world and its 25th Spanish store. Very round figures that show the importance of this popular discount chain, which has great growth and acceptance of its customers. I am sure that with such a good track record and the daily work, you are expecting very good results in our city”.
Action started 30 years ago with one store in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands. Since then, Action has been expanding and now has stores in 11 countries. Action welcomes 14 million consumers every week in its stores. In addition, each week another 6.5 million consumers visit the Action.com website.
